How I get the most out of my VIP membership

stories storytelling success stories storytelling tips

I went all in my first year as a VIP member.

I finished every training course within a few months. Storyworthy was always in my ear. I connected my Bluetooth headphones to my computer and listened to Matt while I did the dishes, vacuumed, and drove. My goal was to establish a baseline. I didn’t know anything about storytelling. I went from nothing to something.

My understanding matured as the year went on.

The intro content became normal, so I moved into more specialized topics. I listened to most of the past live sessions. It took me two weeks to get through that 6.5-hour humor workshop. It was worth every minute. It helped me look for humor in media and begin to understand why some things are funny, but others aren’t.

More than that, Matt, Heather, and Lionel talk about all these concepts all the time. It’s like we have our own shorthand to describe how stories work. I’m the type of person who needs to experience something multiple times to understand it. Ultimately, I want this stuff to become a habit. So, seeing the same lessons in training, live sessions, workshops, and workbooks all helped me begin to take it in.

Ultimately, I want to apply them to my day-to-day life.
Storyworthy helps me do that.

Q&A and Unscripted are the most valuable parts of Storyworthy for me right now. It's my chance to ask Matt a question about something real on my journey. I make sure I show up to every session with a list of one to three questions in hand. A Q&A session without a poignant question is a wasted opportunity, in my opinion.

My first year with Storyworthy was like earning a master's degree.

I consumed all the content, took the time to understand how it reshapes my thinking, and now, I’m applying what I learned every day. The way I consumed that content in year one set the foundation for a new way of being.

The second year I have All Access Live

This gives me access to Matt's two VIP-only live sessions each month and new sessions from Heather and Lionel.

I do my best to show up for all of them. More than that, I'm going to show up with a question, because that's how I maximize the value. I focus on live sessions because I'm more mature in my understanding of storytelling concepts. These sessions give me the ability to ask specific question that help me on the things I’m developing right now. For example, I’m focusing on humor. I ask Matt, Heather, and Lionel about humor every session. I’ll do this until humor becomes part of me, which will be a while.

I get more value out of VIP membership than what it costs me.

In 2025, Matt was charging $750 an hour for consulting on his website. If I get five minutes of custom-tailored help in a session, that's $62.50 of coaching each month. On top of that, I get to hear what matters to other VIP members and leading-edge thinking from Matt, Heather, and Lionel. This expands my understanding of the world in ways I couldn't get on my own.
